Mountain Lions Start 2-2-2 in Coast Conference Play

The De Anza College men's soccer team played to a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Skyline College on Tuesday afternoon at home.

With the result, the No. 16-ranked Mountain Lions stand at 2-2-2 in Coast Conference play and 6-3-3 overall.

Defense and Goalkeeping Set the Tone

Goalkeeper Carlos Balthazar anchored the De Anza back line with two saves. The back four kept Skyline without a shot on goal for long stretches of the match, limiting space and winning key 50-50 balls in midfield transitions.

Creating Chances Up Front

De Anza generated several looks in the final third. Midfielders Ibrahim Ahmed and Alessandro Velasquez each registered shots on goal, while Keven "Peewee" Orocio and Erick Serrano pressured the Skyline defense through counterattacks and set pieces. Despite controlling possession through most of the second half, the Mountain Lions couldn't break through against Skyline goalkeeper Matias Kramer, who recorded two saves.

Building Momentum

The 0-0 draw extends a string of competitive performances for a De Anza squad that has held opponents scoreless in three conference matches. The Mountain Lions now sit near the middle of the Coast Conference standings as they enter the second half of league play looking to convert defensive stability into offensive momentum.

Coast-South Conference Outlook

Through six games, Evergreen Valley remains the front-runner with a 5-0-1 record and an eight-game unbeaten streak, followed by West Valley (3-0-3) solidly in second. Both teams have yet to lose a conference match this season. Las Positas and De Anza are locked in a tight race for third and fourth, each holding identical 2-2-2 records, while Foothill (2-4-0) sits just behind them. Gavilan and Monterey Peninsula round out the table still searching for their first league win.

With a balanced mix of results and a strong defensive identity, the Mountain Lions remain in contention as they prepare for the second half of the Coast-South schedule.
