Eight Lions Qualify For State Finals

The two-day Coast Conference Championship event at De Anza College was a success for the host Mountain Lions.

De Anza swept the singles and doubles conference titles - and had eight 3C2A qualifiers.

Sophomore Mailan Vuong defeated Fresno City College's top player PJ Yang - going three sets for the second time in three meetings. Vuong's 21-9, 12-21, 21-12 win gave her a 2-1 series edge, but another meeting in the 3C2A finals seems likely.

In a surprising doubles results, newly-formed pair Vuong and Natalee Lam handed DA teammates Jenny Thai and Karina Chow their first loss of the season. Those four earned All-Coast Conference honors, along with singles semi-finalist Makayla Than, Trinity Nguyen, Adrienne Lee, and Seojin Min.

De Anza will take a perfect 14-0 record into next week's 3C2A State Championships against South top-seed Pasadena City College. (Thursday, 5pm at City College of San Francisco).

The 3C2A singles and doubles championships will be Friday at 12pm and Saturday 11am.
