De Anza Records Major Improvements at Clovis Invitational

CLOVIS, CA 

The De Anza College cross country program made a strong statement at the annual Clovis Crush Invitational, with every returner recording significant personal records and sophomore standout Siena Pignataro earning a Top 15 finish in a highly competitive field.

The field included two-year and four-year collegesl - and the event was held at the site of the 2025 3C2A State Championships.

Women's Highlights

Pignataro turned in one of the most impressive improvements of the day, placing 11th overall out of 156 runners with a time of 19:11 (seventh among two-year college athletes). That mark was more than eight minutes faster than her performance at the same meet last season, where she clocked 27:29.

Teammate Erika Pham also made a major jump, cutting more than two and a half minutes from last year's time (25:19 to 22:49).

Men's Highlights

On the men's side, Jonathan Kammerer led the Mountain Lions with a determined race against 258 competitors, finishing 115th overall and helping set the tone for the team's efforts.

Both Jerry Dang and Toby Huynh also demonstrated the team's growing depth with major drops from their 2024 times:

  • Dang: 24:36 to 23:36 (1:00 faster)

  • Huynh: 30:06 to 26:02 (4:04 faster)

A Team on the Rise

In total, every returning Mountain Lion notched a new personal record at Clovis.

"PRs are one thing, potential is another. While everyone is excited about their improvements, we know we're still scratching the surface," said Head Coach Andy Ponce de Leon. "The team is hungry, motivated, and excited for what's ahead this season."

DA will next compete at the Central Park Classic in Huntington Beach on Sept. 19.
