De Anza Extends Regular-Season Win Streak

The No. 20-ranked De Anza College Mountain Lions put together another dominant performance on Saturday afternoon, coming away with a 68-10 win against Gavilan College in Gilroy.

The victory marked the 17th straight during the regular season - and improved the Lions to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the Golden Coast League.

De Anza will host Coalinga College next Saturday at 1 p.m. The Falcons have won five in a row and are also at 2-0 in league play.

"Another great job all around," De Anza head coach Joe D'Agostino said.

"Today was an opprtunity for some guys to get a lot of playing time. It was great to come out healthy. Next week will be a big test against Coalinga, a program that is well-coached and one of the hottest teams in the state."

De Anza-Gavilan stats will be posted soon...

Quick Notes:

The state's No. 1 defense (entering the game allowing 10.8 ppg) outscored Gavilan's offense - as the Lions scored on a fumble return (65 yards) by freshman LB Lamar Heath and a 42-yard, one-handed pick-6 by freshman LB Hosie Hopkins

For the third straight game, the Lions returned a kickoff for a touchdown. This time, freshman Isaiah Addison returned a short kickoff 73 yards for the score.

The Lions scored quickly in the first two minutes (freshman QB Ian Kirby pass to sophmore WR Jadhari Young) and took a 14-0 lead after Ke'Yon Torain's short TD run.

On the first play of the second quarter Kirby found sophomore WR Akeem Wright in the corner of the endzone for another TD and a 21-0 lead.

Sophomore RB Lamy Constant scored on a short TD run to give DA a commanding 35-0 lead.

On second-and-goal with eight seconds before half, Gavlian sent out its field goal unit and connected on a 26-yard FG to make it 35-3.

Kirby added a one-yard TD run to open the third quarter.

Backup QB sophomore Hiro Diamond found Young in the endzone for a 25-yard score midway through the third quarter.

Diamond connected with freshman WR Jayden Webber on the final score. Webber took a swing pass behind the line of scrimmage and scooted 45 yards through the Rams' secondary for his first career TD.
