The No. 10 De Anza College Mountain Lions advanced to the second round of the CCCAA Men's Soccer Northern California Playoffs after outlasting the No. 23 Modesto Junior College Pirates in a dramatic 2-1 overtime victory Wednesday afternoon at home.
After a scoreless first half, De Anza broke through just after the break when Ryan Corcoran buried a finish in the 46th minute off an assist from Brady Tessin.
Modesto managed to equalize in the 89th minute, sending the match into extra time.
De Anza responded in the 118th minute, as Alessandro Velasquez produced the game-winner - securing the 2-1 triumph and sending the home crowd into celebration.
Goalkeeper Carlos Balthazar earned the win with one save in 90 minutes of action, while Luc Narido opened the match with a solid first-half shift in goal. De Anza's back line limited Modesto's offensive opportunities and helped maintain control even as the match intensified.
